about
‘Has the bird got your tongue’ the debut single from multi-instrumentalist Rick Leigh
Ray Davies, Laura Mvula, Orlando Weeks, Patrick Watson, Jules Buckley…the list of outstanding artists that Rick Leigh has performed with in recent years is pretty stellar. Add in those he’s collaborated and produced with - Denai Moore, Luke Sital-Singh and Eve Owen to name three - and it becomes clear just why it’s taken this in-demand multi-instrumentalist quite so long to get around to releasing his first solo work.
That’s finally about to change with the release of Rick's highly anticipated debut EP. Combining expansive arrangements with intimate vocal melodies and drawing influence from the Cinematic Orchestra, Moses Sumney and James Blake.
‘Has the bird got your tongue’ is about the process Rick went through in therapy to find his own voice and rebuild the relationship he has with himself. This brooding and pulsating track is about the uncertainty of bringing to the surface what has been unspoken but a calm whisper that things could be otherwise.

-----
Has the bird got your tongue
We’ve been doing it all wrong
Has the bird got your tongue
It feels like we’ve been sleeping
Bleary eyed awake
I can’t believe we were dreaming
When underneath we were wide awake
It’s coming
It’s coming
It’s coming
Descended like a thin mist
Altering our gaze
A doubt that softly lingers
There’s nothing to hold onto
There’s no one inside
Just a place upon your island
You daren’t go back inside
Gotta open up your island
The birds are at your door
Stop holding onto reasons
We’ve been this way before
Gotta open up your island
The birds are at your door
Stop holding onto reasons
We’ve been this way before
It’s coming
It’s coming
It’s coming
